EVP's Voices from the Dead

EVP's are "Electronic Voice Phenomena" believed by many to be voices from the other side.
In theory spirits can somehow communicate by using our current technology or energy  sources resulting in audible, intentional voice recordings.
 Common sources include
static, stray radio transmissions and background noise.
Many believe that ghosts can even draw energy from living beings for a burst of audible sound mimicing or resembling "speech".
Still others believe that spirits pull energy from batteries in our equipment, which might explain how a fully charged battery can suddenly become drained in certain instances, or why electronic devices begin to falter in the presence of possible spirit entities.
It is an interesting phenomenon, and one that deserves more research.

EVP and New Dimensions - a comprehensive and up-to-date book on the Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP).  Written by a former NASA speech researcher may help you understand more about this intriguing phenomena.

We believe the recordings below are the efforts of spirits trying to communicate. See what you think as you listen to what could be disembodied voices.

*All of our EVP's fall below or above our normal hearing range of 60 - 20,000 htz  viewed on a graph to help identify the sounds we hear.

NEW! 4/2012 - Haunted Coal Tower - Red Ash - Caryville, TN

Possible Class "A" EVP - You may be surprised at the clarity of this disembodied voice which seemingly answers a direct question about the death of a fallen worker from the coal stack nearly a century ago. This is just one reason this location earned a chapter in my book which can be purchased at Amazon.com or from our Home page - a book that embraces local haunted legends and shares our experiences at each of them titled Chasing Ghost Tales in Tennessee.

The EVP Files - Jonesborough, TN

Jonesborough is one of the oldest towns, and possibly one of the most haunted places in Tennessee. With a historic district that has buildings predating the Civil War, is it any wonder there are spirits residing in many places? We captured 7 or more possible EVP's while investigating a few of the town's oldest sites. This video highlights all of them. See what you think as you listen to the Ghosts from the past as they attempt to communicate.

To hear some of the EVP's in amplified/slower version, click the players for any of the EVP's

"Mommy" ?? At the Tannery when we return to dowse.
   "Hurry"
"He's got ya" or "He's got in."
"Here" or "We're here" in response to asking Nethaniel's location.
"Right - Yes!" When we ask if the spirit is standing next to me.
"Nowhere" In a whispery voice just before & in between the investigator's words.

Check this "enhanced" & cleaned up version of our Jonesborough EVP's that fellow Paranormal Enthusiast Lisa from GJ Paranormal put together for us. She did a great job.

The Walking Horse Inn - Wartrace, TN

In this video we share some pictures and possible EVP's captured at The Walking Horse Inn. It was known as  The Overall Hotel, and Floyd's Walking Horse Hotel in previous years. Click the audio players below the video for distinct versions of the EVPs. Each EVP is looped 1 or 2 times, the first part is the original unedited version, and the second/third would be "amplified" and/or "normalized". Recommend external speakers, headphones or earbuds for clarity. These EVP's are class "B" & class "C" Electronic Voice Phenomena.

This sounds like "Hi!" In response to our question.
This one is a whispery sound, it sounds like "Yes."
This one sounds like a complete sentence. Possibly saying, "All ya'll come here."

The Stone House - Millennium Manor - Alcoa, TN

See our Haunted Places page for this unique & interesting legend. We wondered if the house is haunted as rumored. We had some mysterious things happen. Listen to these 2 EVP's to hear distinctly different voices. Then watch the video on our Video Page & decide for yourself. We feel these EVP's  fall into a Class "A"  and Class "B" EVP.
"You are here" or "We are here"
   "Come in"

LakeShore Mental Asylum - Knoxville, TN
There is a reason this location earned a chapter in my latest book (Chasing Ghost Tales in Tennessee). We have visited this site several times and captured a few Class B EVP's in the last part of 2010.
Is this a response to the question "Did you die here?"
The Thomas House - Red Boiling Springs, TN

  The Thomas House
This is a class A/Class B EVP submitted to us by paranormal enthusiast- Kris- thanks so much for sharing! While staying at The Thomas House she and her friends/family conducted their own investigation. In this clip you will hear an unknown male laughing; note: there wasn't a male in the room, nor anywhere around them at the time in this bed and breakfast.
The Thomas House - Red Boiling Springs, TN

  The Thomas House

Another EVP captured by Kris- this seems to be the voice of a small girl- Captured in room 37, which is known to be the room where a little girl named Sarah Cloyd had died. Approx., 9 seconds into the recording listen for the small voice to say "Come find me", or something similar: Apparantly, Sarah's ghost likes to invite people to play hide and seek! Approx., 42 seconds into the recording, you can hear her say, "OOh I'm cold!" Then around the 45 seconds, she can be heard saying "No!". (Software to enhance the voice for clarity was used. The child's voice is eerily plain to me.)

One of Knoxville, TN's most historic & well known homes
- We experienced EMF spikes, a feeling of not being alone, plus we caught what might be two EVP's. The owners do not want the location revealed. But listen closely to a deep male voice answering a couple of my questions during an EVP session. You will hear the original clip, then hear it amplified followed by a slower version. See if you can detect his replies.
   "hey" or "yea"
Question: "What is your name?" And the disembodied answer actually sounds like the name of the original owner. But we can't give you that name, due to confidentiality agreement between current owner & Paranormal Spectrum.  Recommend ear-buds or headphones. Class "C" EVP.

  Private Residence in Clinton, TN

We have a couple of videos and several EVP's from this paranormally active home. You may need earbuds as all of these voices are behind our voices and sound much like whispery sounds. But each one is distinct.

 "I'm cold."
  Sounds like a mischevous snicker.
   "Oh... Come back."

Classifications of EVP's
(Electronic Voice Phenomena)

CLASS A EVP - is a message that can be heard without headphones and that people can generally agree on  the content (s). These are usually the loudest with the words or phrases leaving little dispute over what is being said. Very clear and loud audio capture is obtained in a class A EVP.
CLASS B EVP - requires a headphone to distinguish message content and not everyone will agree on the message.
CLASS C EVP - requires headphone, often needs amplification and filtering and will seldom even be heard by others. This seems to be the most common EVP captured, yet some investigators will not treat it as hardcore evidence.

There are other classifications of EVP's. Played in Reverse some messages will emerge with different clarity or  meaning. In such cases these EVP's should be defined with an R in front of the Classification. We do not play our audio files in reverse. It is our opinion that would be  manipulating the sound file to "create" an EVP. Still, it is common practice among many paranormal researchers. We only "amplify" or "remove background noise" in a few instances. Sometimes if an EVP is very fast we may slow the tempo to better understand what was said, however we will only slow the tempo a tiny bit and we always play the original sound- bite followed by the amplied or clarified version.
We also must "know" that no one present made the voice, and if there is doubt we simply toss the audio file and do not use it as possible "paranormal evidence".
